Week 20

Another high risk appointment today, but good news is that I'm no longer considered High risk after today! Looks like it's still a boy because now they can see the "turtle" or as Niko likes to call it the "tortoise". Maddox is still measuring only a week ahead which means that my blood sugars are not adding to his growth. He is either just big (only in the 64%) or he is actually a week ahead of what they are predicting to be his due date. This kid does not stop moving. I just started feeling movement last week and I kept thinking that it never feels like he stops. Today, he proved it! The ultrasound tech had a difficult time getting pictures and says that we're likely to have our hands full when he comes out!

Week 13

Today was our first appointment with the High Risk OB. We really enjoyed the office there and got some awesome pictures of the baby! The High Risk OB has some advanced ultrasound technology, so they were able to tell us what we're having (that's with a 97.6% probability). It's amazing! Afterall, we are only 13 weeks. The doctor said the baby is measuring about a week ahead of time, which could be of concern if it continues to grow at this rate (being diabetic the baby gets alot of extra sugar, which increases it's size, but not it's maturity. So although, it's getter bigger quicker, it's organs are developing at the expected rate). We'll just have to keep an eye on it! But other than that, the baby looked very healthy with super long legs ;)
If this last picture is correct. We're having a boy! Maddox James. But that little bump is not his member... It's supposively his pelvic bone. If it's vertical it is a boy and if it's horizontal it indicates a girl. His is definitely vertical = BOY!!

There's a new Nickolaou coming!

Well, Thanksgiving we finally popped the big news. I don't think Niko and I have ever held such a big secret for so long. The day after returning from our big Italy / Egypt trip, Niko and I found out that I was pregnant! So, that put us finding out right around week 4. My big thing was that due to being high risk (due to the fact that I'm diabetic), I didn't want our family and friends to know until we were past our first trimester, just in case, something were to happen. So perfect timing... 12 weeks happened to fall the Sunday before Thanksgiving, so we were going to wait to pop the news until the family was together for the holiday. We announced the pregnancy by showing a slideshow of all the things we were thankful for over the past year... ending with the sonogram picture. The funny thing is the Nickolaou women still didn't get it until finally they saw my name in the upper left corner. Then the tears and joys began!
